Clif Bar & Co., Sea Otter Classic, and the Sea Otter Classic will purchase enough clean wind power to offset any carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from participants traveling to and from the event. Global warming is primarily caused by CO2. The festival’s organizers are responsible for the majority of the carbon dioxide emissions.
Clif Bar and Sea Otter combined will offset 748 tons of carbon dioxide. Sea Otter has committed to reducing the event’s ecological footprint in Laguna Seca Recreation Area, and adjacent Bureau of Land Management properties since its inception. The Clif Bar partnership marks the first year of climate neutrality for the event. This, along with other environmental efforts, is one of the largest environmental commitments at a major cycling festival.
Clif Bar & Co., Sea Otter and NativeEnergy will purchase renewable renewable wind energy credits (or green tags) from NativeEnergy. NativeEnergy is a renewable energy company. The green tags will be used for funding new wind turbines that use less electricity from burning fossil fuels like coal.
