Gunn-Rita Dahl Announces Pregnancy And Preparation For The London Olympics

Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesja from Norway, 35, has revealed that she is pregnant. Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesja, 35, who won the Olympic gold in 2004 and a slew World Championships and World Cup cross country titles, has announced that she will be having a baby in April 2009.

Gunn-Rita DahleFlesja (pictured here with her husband/trainer Kevin Flesja) will get a new fan at the forthcoming Olympics

Gunn-Rita had this to say, in making her announcement:Fitness-wise Im not in too good shape after our so-called active month of restitution in October, but weve had an exciting period with lots of activities on other arenas. I am in a healthy and vibrant state considering that I am three months pregnant.

We have resumed our winter training program and are looking forward to getting in some exercise until Christmas. Naturally, we will adjust the intensity to suit my feelings and growing stomach. The Norwegian Olympic Federation’s expertise and insights will be used to train elite pregnant athletes.

If my pregnancy and birth were normal, I would like to be back on my bicycle and training full time again in May. The Gunn-Rita Marathon, north Italy, would be my first international race. However, this will depend on how I feel after giving birth. We aim to participate in the European Championships and World Championships at the end the season in August/September.

As I continue my professional cycling career, we have been promised that we will receive lots of support and help from our family and siblings with babysitting. In the coming years Kenneth will be more of a father and a partner than a trainer. We feel extremely fortunate and lucky to be parents. This will help us achieve our Olympic goal of winning a medal in London 2012.

We are looking forward to exciting times, and we are very happy.
